Welcome to my Sunshine Lovers fanlore! I've been developing this goofy self-indulgent project for years now, all for something that is ultimately for my own personal enjoyment. I've always loved when people put a ridiculous amount of passion into the most random of characters, soooo that's where I come in with these silly fellas. This specific Pop'n AU has a lot of different themes, but not limited to: acceptence of queer identity despite the trials that come with it, self-redemption and pushing through mental health issues, the fight for a kinder future, and finding solace within people you can call your family (I often joke that this AU is also anti-nuclear-family propaganda, as I do firmly believe that non-traditional, but functional and loving families should be viewed with the same amount of worth + the nuclear family often tears queer and neurodivergent lives apart if the foundation of said family is shitty and people shouldn't have to bound to them if it doesn't work out)

This AU is a fucking MESS of tonal whiplash and I just sorta go "fuck it, we ball" at that. Things range from Rankin-Bass Beatles cartoon/Monkees/Electric Mayhem shenangans, to grungy queer arthouse film. It's very stupid and cheesy, but I like cheese :)

Despite how soapboxy I make this sound, ultimately this is about a bunch of silly guys in a band that wish to spread their joy to others and encourage people to love one another. I am also just... a major fucking sucker for found family unit AUs oughhh, that is like CocoMelon to me... Anyway, in this, W.B. Rose and Ted=Pete are a married couple, and Wacky and Prince M are QPPs and Really's just everyone's kiddo.

Another AU: Cygnetverse

Cygnetverse is a very silly, very self-indulgent AU that I've had since the inception of my reign of terror, but only very recently (2026) it's got a name. This was a goofy excuse to draw Really but baby-young and being taken care of by mostly Prince M - it means a lot to me as I use it to cope. I discontinued this for a while for personal reasons, but it's back.

It's a very silly coffee shop AU that is sorta meant to be before the Sunshine Lovers were a successful band + Really is aged down to Babby. Essentially instead of Really coming out of nowhere, they were granted to Prince M by Photon. The guys have dayjobs beyond music, though Prince M is a stay-at-home dad who came down to Earth to explore it. He met Wacky at a record shop + cafe hybrid that he works at and now they're dating... Wacky is a confused stepdad for Really. W.B. Rose and Ted=Pete also live with them and they chip in with taking care of Really.

It's called Cygnetverse because I heavily associate Prince M with swans (being from the Cygnus constellation) and he affectionately calls Really his cygnet, along with other cute affectionate nicknames.

Meet the Sunshine Lovers

Wacky

The main vocalist and the one most fans just can't get enough of - they faint at his glance after all!~ He always appreciates the screams of his "little kittens." - Of course, they don't know that he is actually kind of insecure about himself, hence why he portrays himself the way he does on stage. Due to personal trauma over being rejected for his quirks when he was younger, he fears disappointing them. Before the band officially formed, he was coached by his idol W.B. Rose, and look where that landed him. Outside of his career, he's got geeky hobbies. He can be a sarcastic little butt sometimes, but he doesn't mean harm with it. His three little pet pandas are his emotional support animals.

W.B. Rose

The other main vocalist, and boy he loves to put on a show! Over-the-top, flamboyant, and dazzling with personality! W.B. Rose is sure to make a memorable prescence on stage and plans absolutely everything out in a very calculated way. He's also sort an overdramatic primma donna and a perfectionist, but is also a massive sweetheart who wants to see others embrace themselves and throw away any sort of self-hatred. He's had a rough start to his career, especially since he had to fend for himself the moment he became an adult and got into extremely poor habits, but he bounced back after meeting Ted=Pete. They became buddies who mutually each others' art and then lovers, hehe.

Prince M

A guitarist whose alluring tunes are out of this world. Born in the palm of the great space goddess Photon, he was raised to be a messenger of her word of love and peace. A troubadour who travelled lands far and wide, loyally following what he was set out to do... and then everything changed when he took Really under his wing and then discovered Earth. He met Wacky. W.B. Rose, and Ted=Pete and mistook their own goals of wanting others to feel joy with their work as being on a similiar mission to his... but it worked out. He's very gentle, caring, and full of unconditional love for everyone.

Really

A mysterious child that spawned from a strange digital real... also the band's adorable little percussionist and visual effects artist thanks to their psychedelic reality-warping abilities. Discovered exploring the real universe by Prince M, they became his little buddy who travelled with him. They're a sweet and gentle child that should be protected at all costs. They also have their beloved pet unicorn that also came from their dimension. They're often lost in a daydream and have no idea who or what they are as a person at times, but the others love them anyway and all treat them as their own child.

Ted=Pete

Ted may be the skeleton of the man he formerly was, but he is still a creative genius. He has always had huge passion for poetry and writing and quite the artistic eye. The band calls him "the man behind the magic" since he is what decided that everybody's sound would work greatly together. He's also great for additional instrumentation, whether it be the piano or his trusty banjo. Also very gentlemanly and appreciates every tiny thing that makes the world wonderful. He's been through very traumatizing things in his past life, but he's got it much better these days with a new family giving him what he never had.
